(This is still under construction, as I am still working on the later half focusing more on Aya and the interaction with Mitsutomo to further the explain the relationship. I may also refine some of this to make it more in depth and detailed.)
(As we know from Mitsuyoshi's bio, he was born as the result of a love union between Aya, a Wolf Daiyoukai Princess, and Mitsutomo Nagano the son and Heir of to Mitsukatsu Nagano, Lord of Nishino Castle and the Nagano Clan. Mitsuyoshi would later be brought before Mitsutomo to be raised in the world of humans as he would not be so well received in the world of Youkai. Having grown, educated, and trained in the world of humans as a Samurai, much of his orientation and history is associated with such. In this post, I hope to provide the Lore of the other side of his family that he has yet to gain any more knowledge of. Not just for curiosity, but also for future RP with any potential Youkai characters, particularly those of powerful families. Without further ado, let us proceed.
Mitsuyoshi's daiyoukai family originates in the Northern Lands of Japan, as the head of one of 5 different clans(packs or tribes if you prefer). Sometime during the late Nara period, His Grandfather, Kibakiru was a Wolf Daiyoukai and rose to the head of the Kitayama Ookami (Northern Mountain Wolf) clan through combat, killing the clan's defacto leader at that time. He would go onto lead the Kitayama clan in it's many rivalries and clashes with the 4 other wolf clans of the Northern lands: The Azumamori Ookami(Eastern Forest Wolf clan), The Minamiyama Ookami (Southern Mountain Wolf Clan), The Nishimori Ookami(Western Forest Wolf Clan), and The largest of the five, Kitashima Ookami(Northern Island wolf clan) from Hokkaido. However one day a new threat had emerged on the shores of Hokkaido from the North. An Ogre Barbarian army from beyond Japan had landed and proceeded in their conquest over the whole of Hokkaido and subsequently had laid siege to the Kitashima clan's home base.
Faced with this new threat and their potential destruction as this foreign Ogre army threatened to continue further south into Honshu, the Kitashima's had sent envoys just before the encirclement of their castle with the express intention of convening an emergency conference of the 5 clans, with the intent on forming an alliance, to combine arms, and to repel the Ogre barbarians and save their clan. The Conference was held in the Human realm on the shores of what we know today as Aomori prefecture. This meeting of the clans proved more complicated as each of the clan lords had their own selfish aspirations and concerns for their own interests and the conference quickly descended into a lot of bickering. Lord Kibakiru, long silent from the beginning, broke the incessant bickering, when he tossed a flask of oil into the fireplace at the center of the meeting resulting in a large burst of flame that threatened to burn down the tent in which they were all seated. With the bickering silenced momentarily, Lord Kibakiru rose and argued that if the Lords continued to fight amongst each other, the Barbarians who did not differ between the varying clans, would surely take them down one by one as how it had happened with the other non wolf youkai clans of Hokkaido and thus now underway with the Kitashima.
The Lords would eventually come to agree to combine their forces, now convinced of the necessity to stand unified and act immediately, But to better consolidate and centralize the command of their combined force, their existed the need for a Commander in Chief. The clans would return to bickering, each with their own selfish aims, sought claim to the position, but it was the suprise intervention of the Toboejosei, the Songstress and Sacred healer, whom all the clans revered, that broke the dispute. Officially endorsing and blessing Lord Kibakiru as the Kita Ookami Taishougun(Commander in Chief of the Northern Wolf Army) Most of the Lords came to agree as Kibakiru was respectable as a military commander, and courageous, and seen as a Charismatic leader by his own army, but most of all during the entire affair did not show any selfish ambition as they each had, thus he could be trusted.
With the Combined forces of the Northern Wolf Clans, Lord Kibakiru would lead this force and relieve the besieged Kitashima clan on Hokkaido. The combined army, although still outnumbered by the massive ogre army, Kibakiru came up with a plan to even the playing field. He deployed a smaller army to land on the Eastern shore of Hokkaido with a large number of boats and ships bearing unit banners to give the impression of the complete combined force preparing to disembark on the Eastern shore. The plan worked as The Ogre Commander split his force, leading 3/4ths of his army to attack the landing army on the eastern shore. The Force that landed on the eastern shore would quickly fortify in it's positions and prepare to hold against the coming onslaught. Kibakiru Taishougun landed on the southern shore with the majority of the combined force and moved swiftly under the cover of night to relieve the Kitashima's castle, their surprise night attack crushed the smaller Ogre force that remained to continue the siege of the castle, causing rapid dismay and confusion. The order was given to leave no survivor and allow no escape to keep the element of surprise, as soon thereafter Kibakiru would move his army on a forced march eastward to relieve the landing force and hit the Ogre army from the rear, hoping to encircle and annihilate the Ogre Army once and for all.
At dawn the next day, The Combined Wolf army emerged over the hillside to the rear of the Ogre Army confronting the landing force on the eastern shore just as the Ogre army was preparing to launch another attack against the fortified landing force on the shore. Kibakiru's army would be discovered before he could give the command to attack, but they would still maintain their advantage as the Ogre Army could not maneuver quick enough to counter the wolf army as it clashed into their rear and flanks. Seizing the moment, the signal was given for the Landing force to break from it's fortifications to attack the Ogre army. Kibakiru's force had not be able to completely encircle the Ogre army as one of their units had successfully pushed back on their left flank, allowing for an opening to be kept. However, the surprise and slow reaction had allowed the Wolf army to cause much confusion among the Ogre ranks and it did not take long for command to break down and following thereafter, so too did the Ogre army began to break apart and flee.
The Ogre General himself would flee and later rally what remained of his forces, but by this point the Combine Wolf army had the advantage in numbers and wit, denying the Ogres from every successfully counter attacking or seizing important and strategic points on Hokkaido. They would eventually be pushed entirely back to their ships on the sea, only to be met by the small fleet of pirate fleets, formed into a mercenary navy, and hired by the United Northern Wolf Clans. They continued to pursue and harass the fleeing Ogre ships as they sailed away until they were far enough out to sea that the Kappa Pirate captain Kogamaru, the defacto admiral of the fleet, had ordered the naval force back to land after plundering many of the Ogre ships.
With the Kitashima clan saved, but now severely weakened, the power center of the clans shifted to the Kitayama Clan and although the position of Kita Ookami Taishougun was considered temporary, Kibakiru would consolidate his power and secure his position as the overall head of the 5 clans through rewards, false accusations and subsequent punishment of any figure whom would be deemed a threat to his authority. He had indeed successfully concealed his own ambitions and played the other clans. However, Under his rule the clans had experienced a kind of boom as the end of internal fighting brought about much prosperity and culture. This would only last so long, until Taishougun Kibakiru would set his sights on the lands further south. In that campaign to conquer the south, he would have to subdue the lands ruled by Lord Toga, also known as Inu no Taishou.
The Dog General issued a challenge to Kibakiru, a duel. If Kibakiru were to win he would have the armies and the lands of Inu no Taishou. If he were defeated, the Wolf Armies would have to withdraw back to the North and never return. Kibakiru would accept this challenge and the two would go on to fight a ferocious battle that lasted 3 days and nights, but ultimately Inu no Taishou would emerge victorious with his specially crafted swords and utilizing the one thing against Kibakiru that served as his weakness that had come to blind him since ascending to such power, his belief in his own greatness.
Kibakiru's would survive and return to his lands with his armies, but in his heart he vowed to seek revenge for the humiliating defeat. After suppressing a coup attempt by the clan lords following his defeat, He sought out the master swordsmith Totosai and commissioned a grand sword that he could wield against the Dog general in their next encounter. He made an offering to the God Susanoo no Mikoto for a blessing and had received the feather of a sacred crane that had descended down to him on a breeze from the heavens, with this he pulled his own fang and offered these items to the Great Totosai and thus the Kazega was born.
With the new sword Kibakiru would return to challenge the Dog General. The duel between the two Daiyoukai lasted for 5 days causing much destruction over the landscape, this had an effect in the Human realm as well as the clash caused storms and floods as a result of the effects of the Kazega, finally as Kibakiru Raised his sword high to strike down upon what appeared to be a weakened Toga, he was met with surprise when the blade of Tessaiga was thrust into his chest. In the surprise move the Kazega was flung from his hands and landed blade first into the earth, as he reached to his chest and collapsing to the ground dead. Kibakiru's son and heir, Kibamaru, would recover the Kazega, vowing to return to avenge his father one day but the next time with an army. Kibamaru would return to the Northern lands to inherit his Father's title as Kita Ookami Taishougun. After Cementing his rule, he built a vast army 100 years later during what would now be known as the Heian period and he made good on his promise to Inu no Taishou. With his armies amassed he crossed into the Dog General's lands and engaged his Armies, but during that first battle he was betrayed by the Lord of the Azumamori, stabbed in back on the field of battle. Lord Azumamori had made a secret deal with Inu No Taishou, that if he killed Kibamaru, the Dog General would promise to allow them to leave without reprisal, and that he would never set foot in their lands again.
Toga, the Dog General Lord, honored his word and allowed Lord Azumamori leave with the combined army. It was at this point in time that Aya, now a Toboejosei, fled the realm upon learning of her brother's betrayal, knowing full well that her life would be threatened as a legitimate child bearer for her family's claim to the seat of power and it was a common custom of the new leadership of the northern wolf clans to kill all who could have claim to rule. She fled to the realm of humans and lived in Exile, where she remained.
After the betrayal of Kibamaru, Higemaru would rise to claim the leadership of the Kitayama clan. Lord Azumamori laid claim to the position of Kita Ookami Taishougun, but the union of the northern wolf clans would descend into infighting and Lord Azumamori would himself be betrayed and killed during the ensuring conflict. The Glorious and prosperous days of the Unified Northern Wolf Clans which had spanned 240 years was over. Decades of infighting and further degradation would eventually lead to the collapse of most of the old clans and the eventual scattering of it's members into individual and smaller packs that would mostly turn to banditry.
